COMPANY HISTORY BOOK

Shaw & Sons, four generations of a family in retail by G.T. Shaw

G.T Shaw had worked in the Shaw family business for 80 years. He wanted to tell the story of how his grandparents had founded the company in 1864, how his parents had then continued to grow the company and his brothers, sisters and their children continued to nurture the company. It was an epic story spanning four generations over more than 150 years. G.T Shaw had also collected a large amount of photographs and images.

It was important to tell this story in a compelling manner and to arrange a vast amount of content in a logical structure. Old family photographs and documents from the past had to be repaired and restored for high quality print reproduction. These images had to sit alongside the relevant text so typesetting and layout were important and a challenge for the design team.

The result is a beautiful A4 portrait sized coffee table book printed with high quality 120gsm premium paper. The book was well received by the Shaw family itself along with employees and former employees who had all helped to make Shaws a success. Shaws not only had a beautiful book to celebrate the company history but they also had an important sales and marketing tool to strengthen the unity and commitment across the various stores “almost nationwide”.

Anniversary Book

Green White and Orange, the history of the Republic of Ireland soccer shirt 1921-2021

Eddie O’Mahony owns every Ireland shirt ever made. He wanted to tell the story of the Republic of Ireland soccer jersey spanning 100 years and including highlights such as the Charlton-era and the triumphs of 02, 2012 and 2016. There were jerseys behind Ireland’s most famous players and games, including Ray Houghton’s jersey against England in 1988, Paul McGrath’s against Italy in 1990, classics like John Webster’s against Switzerland in 1936 in Dalymount Park, and of course Richard Dunne’s against Russia in 2011.

Eddie wanted to tell the unusual story of the Irish jersey and how it had changed over 100 years. The challenge was to put all of the content together in a compelling and organised structure. The book also had to be finished in time for the anniversary year celebrations.

A 250 page full colour illustrated book was published in time for the centenary in 2021. The book is an unmissable treat for Irish soccer fans. This wonderful book has featured on Joe Duffy’s Liveline and several other radio shows. It has received numerous accolades and praise from former Irish soccer stars such as Eamon Dunphy and Kenny Cunningham. Eddie had always wanted a museum for his jersey collection and for the moment he has the next best thing, a permanent book record of his jersey collection.

Biography

Peter J. Drumm by Ned Barrett

Ned Barrett worked for many years as a clinical biochemist and wanted to honour and remember Peter J. Drumm, the first Professor of Biochemistry at University College Cork. Peter was a man of extraordinary ability and an outstanding chemist and biochemist. His academic and research output in Ireland, England, Germany and Scotland was considerable. All of this was achieved against a backdrop of political and economic upheaval and war, both in Ireland and abroad. His death at a relatively young age was a tremendous loss to his academic colleagues and students at UCC.

The challenge was to tell Peter’s story and to convey both his exceptional academic ability and his warm and generous personality.

The book was well received by Peter’s family, friends and former colleagues and we delivered a book that serves as a lasting tribute to a brilliant man.
